PROSERVATIVE, NOT CONSERVATIVE

Pro means ' for' in Latin, and con means 'against'. People ask whether I am a liberal, progressive, moderate or conservative. None of the above. I am a proservative, and if elected, I will serve only the public interest. President Lincoln was a proservative Republican: he fought to free the slaves. By contrast conservative means being against the public interest. President Bush is a conservative Republican: he fights to make the top 2% rich richer at the expense of the 98% unrich. Everything Bush does serves this single, simple goal. Conservatives have their own 15 commandments:
No abortions
No big government
No civil unions
No democracy
No estate taxes
No fair elections
No flag burning
No estate taxes
No justice
No Kyoto treaty
No new taxes
No old growth forests
No public schools
No single payer
No stem cell research
No tax and spend

Please do not get hung up on words. Conservatives have different words for some of these concepts. Having listed some of the no-no's, what are conservatives for? Conservatives have only one unifying goal: make the rich richer at everybody else's expense. Most conservatives do this unwittingly, and don't even realize they are being used, in the name of religion, freedom, patriotism, liberty, individual choice, personal responsibility, and family values. And what's wrong with all that? (1) family values and all these buzz words, clichés and slogans cannot be deposited in any bank account or safe deposit box, and (2) the buzz words are used to take real value from used conservatives, which the rich puts in the bank for use in part to pay the conservative lobbyists and think tankers, and in part to bribe the politicians who serve them unobtrusively. When Bush abolishes estate taxes, the top 2% benefit, and the other 98% pay for it. When Bush gives the rich billions in tax cuts, it's "economic stimulus." Everybody else gets $300 to shut up. Cute.

Conservatives are not one group, but three: the rich; the professional career conservatives; and manipulated emotional conservatives whom nobody can accuse of acute analysis and profound thinking. The rich are the smallest group, and of course have every reason to be conservative; they will do anything to conserve their wealth and power. The professional career conservatives include two subgroups: lobbyists and think tankers. They are highly devious and shrewd, and promulgate ideas in speeches and publications, to manipulate the emotional conservatives to maintain a voting bloc to keep the rich in power and to make them richer at everybody else's expense. As for the millions of manipulated and used conservatives, they are manipulated to believe they are doing the right thing. They, too, include two subgroups: incurable and curable. It is easy to tell the incurables: when you mention any of their no-no's, they become very angry, loud, and defensive. The curables will smile and give it some thought and eventually may realize that their cherished beliefs really hurt them. It's like the Christian Scientist with acute appendicitis: he had to choose between his life and belief in a very short time span.

One widely held misperception is that Democrats are liberal and Republicans are conservative. That is just not so. It could be said that there are more proservatives among Democrats and more conservatives among Republicans, but it was not always so. The Republican party arose to fight slavery which they realized was wrong. Now that's what proservatism is all about: promote the public interest against the conservative slave owners who erroneously thought that abolishing slavery will be the end of the world. It may be easier to understand this by saying that Lincoln was a proservative Republican while Bush is a conservative Republican acting against the public interest and for the benefit of the top 2% rich.

About 56% of our federal taxes are used for the military instead of health, education, housing, etc. Instead of full employment, we have free trade which exports above all well paying jobs to low wage countries. Conservatism has been causing incalculable damage and suffering to humankind for millennia. If anyone can cite any credible feature of redeeming social value in the conservative mind set, please write to me promptly at Fairfax 05454-0413.

I apologize that the truth is unflattering and hurtful to sincere but manipulated and used conservatives. Truth often is. But please keep in mind that I did not produce this situation and have only summarized some of its key features. Also, if I were wrong, the conservative reader would be amused, not angry. If elected, I will be a vocal proservative. I believe a better world is possible, and it can be legislated if a majority of proservative voters will it. The future quality of life on earth depends on eliminating conservatism, bribocracy and lobbies.
