OPEN LETTER TO JACK McMULLEN
by Peter Moss, 2004 candidate for U.S. Senate
Dear Jack: I hear you have declared for the GOP primary for the U.S. Senate
in 2004, and I bid you welcome. There once was a one-horse town, and it
had one attorney who was starving for lack of clients. But lo and behold,
a second attorney opened shop and soon they both prospered. There is a
lesson in there for us. While I was alone on the hustings, the county
clubs paid little attention to my campaign, and the mass media paid even
less attention. The Vermont Times, a conservative rag in Shelburne, even
changed its editorial policy saying it will not accept letters from announced
candidates, after they had ignored and thus rejected my letters about
a dozen times. I am sure that of the two announced candidates at the time,
the Vermont Times did not have Dr. Howard Dean in mind and sought only
to silence my proservative rhetoric. So once again, welcome to the campaign.
Together we should be able to get public attention to the issues to the
point where a majority will react to the likely Democratic conservative
candidate as Patrick Who? With 14 counties and two parties, there should
be at least 28 local meet-the-candidates opportunities to debate me on
the issues. To give you a leg up on my positions, most of my legislative
proposals are on my web site: http://www.petermoss.org. I am looking forward
to your legislative proposals. My basic point is simple: conservatives,
now led by Bushists, believe the regime's main job is income redistribution,
from America's 98% unrich, to the top 2% rich. I half agree with that:
income redistribution is and should be the government's main job. But
I disagree with their direction. I believe the money should flow from
the top 2% rich to the bottom 98% unrich, as a matter of justice, reason
and fairness. But the devil is in the details and the details are on my
web site. See you on the hustings. Sincerely,
